A heartbreaker of a story, made all the more poignant by the art.

Even though it begins with the loss of a parent this graphic novel isn’t your parents’ Disney fable. Russell is abandoned first by his mother and then by his father. He doesn’t choose friends well and is incapable of doing the right thing even if he knows what that thing is. Nevertheless, the good fairy in the shape of Mrs. Mah won’t give up on him.
Help is always given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it. Here, Russell doesn’t even have to ask. Mr. Jian leaves the light on for him. A heartbreaker of a story, made all the more poignant by the art.
