an unspecified and unexplained Event…

Great action adventure trilogy about an unspecified and unexplained Event that picks up present day Nantucket Island and US Coast Guard tall ship Eagle, who just happen to be cruising off shore at the time, and sets them down again in 1250 BC. Rameses II is on the throne of Egypt, Agamemnon is on the throne in Greece, and one of the CG officers goes rogue to go off and carve his own empire out of this brave old world.

Stirling makes the history come alive and the wealth of technological detail employed in the Nantucketers’ determination not just to survive but to thrive while not making all the same mistakes in their past (future? time travel stories always make me dizzy) makes for a great read. Encyclopedias definitely come into their own. Good characters, too, especially Marian, and if I did find Walker and Hong a little too evil to be believed I do understand how good villains drive a plot. Good hook at the end of the third book, too, just in case Stirling wants to revisit those characters.
