Rejoice that Future Crunch sent out their year-end newsletter, “99 GOOD NEWS STORIES YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T HEAR ABOUT IN 2019.”

Take that

20. Remember bird flu, the disease that was going to be the next global pandemic? There hasn’t been a single H5N1 human infection since February 2017.

and that

50. UNESCO said that 19 African countries reached gender parity (equal numbers of boys and girls) in primary education in the past decade.

and that

52. Democracy is proving far more resilient than the headlines suggest. Since 2000, the number of democracies has risen from 90 to 97, including 11 countries that became democratic for the first time ever, and in 2019, 2 billion people in 50 countries voted, the largest number in history.

All with links back to the original stories. Click through the link beneath the newsletter title above to read all 99. The arc of the moral universe is long, but it does bend toward justice. Rejoice!

Rejoice that Charlie Pierce is home from the hospital. I really like the sound of that nurse, and Myosha, and, well, everyone he wrote about, really.

  1. Thank you. Thank you for the list. Thank you for Storyknife. Thank you for the books, stories, articles, reviews, and all-around sass. Most of all, thank you for you. You have inspired so many, in so many ways. Thank you.

  2. Dana, thanks for the 99 things you probably didn’t know. Instead of reading and hearing about death and destruction all the time. I was so happy to read about the Humpback Whales getting their population so high. So glad poaching is down in Kenya.
    Thanks for the positive news.
