Though Not Dead Playlist

I get a lot of comments here at stabenow.com and on Facebook wanting a list of all the books Kate has ever read and all the songs she has ever listened to.*

Okay, I heard you. While I was doing the copyedit of Though Not Dead, the eighteenth Kate Shugak novel, I kept track of all the music Kate listened to. (Okay, most of it.)

So — drum roll, please — here is The Official Though Not Dead Playlist, as created by Johnny Morgan for Kate’s iPod. This was three years ago in Kate’s life and it is possible that both she and Bobby have moved their musical tastes into the 21st Century.
But only possible. Not at all probable.

Stand by Me (Ben E. King)
Lonely Teardrops (Jackie Wilson)
Take Another Road (Jimmy Buffett)(Well, of course there’d be some Buffett. Kate and Jack fell in love to Jimmy, and Johnny’s first years were spent listening to nothing but.)

Child Of The Wild Blue Yonder (John Hiatt)
High Heel Sneakers (Tommy Tucker)
Sweet Misery (Michelle Branch)
Walking In Memphis (Marc Cohn)(According to Kate there isn’t a bad cut on the whole album)

Drive South (John Hiatt)
Easy (Barenaked Ladies)
Bo Diddley (Bo Diddley)
In a Little While (Uncle Kracker)
The E.N.D. (Black Eyed Peas)(Kate likes the whole album.)

Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong (Spin Doctors)
Torn (Natalie Imbruglia)(Kate thinks the studio musicians on this album and especially this song are on a par with the Wrecking Machine. Put it on and crank it up, you’ll agree.)
Keep The Faith (Bon Jovi) (Oh stop with the rolling of the eyes. Johnny coulda included something by Billy Joel.)
Gimme Three Steps (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Layla (Eric Clapton)(Kate says only and ever the acoustic version.)

Urgent (Foreigner)
Under Pressure (Queen & David Bowie)
Proud Mary (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Twist And Shout (The Beatles)
In the Midnight Hour (Wilson Pickett)

*And now, thanks to the heroic efforts of Super Fan Ginger Hipszky, there is A Shugak Database of Cultural References. Click through and enjoy!
