#inmygarden

August 18, 2026

When they begin to bloom the Pacifica peonies are almost blowsy.
By contrast, while the daylilies bloom even more profusely, they hide their blooms as deep down inside their own foliage as they can.
And at long last, the monkshood are throwing out a few blooms. They seem kind of doubtful about the whole thing, as those flowering stalks are usually a lot taller and much more numerous. It’s been a different kind of year #inmygarden.

  1. Peonies! One of my favorite flowers. They remind me of my growing up years in NY along the VT border. Peonies, poppies, violets, iris, lily of the valley, daisies, my grandmother’s hollyhocks, tiger lilies everywhere along roadsides (“ditch lilies” called by some people here in MI.) Old fashioned flowers and something blooming from spring, all summer long and into fall.

  2. Very pretty! I have the same peony, however, it blooms and is gone sooner than yours. Nice to see it growing again!

  3. Peonies must be some of the toughest flowers out there to have survived the weather year we just had. I’d of been happy to see even one of them bloom. As it is I migrate outdoors even in the fog (been a lot of fog this year, too) to worship at their feet.

  4. Lovely! There is nothing like watching for a bloom to open.Thank goodness I have a wonderful neighbor who is helping me learn Southern California gardening. So much fun!
