“There is no such thing as them. There is only us.”

So I watched this and there at the end when he says he sees “a blossoming unity spreading across this planet, a blossoming awareness of our interdependent nature,” I had a thought. Nothing new or revolutionary, just a thought.

We’ve been looking for leaders to get us out of the mess we’re in and all we do is elect people who keep digging us deeper into the mess. Maybe the whole point of electing terrible leader after terrible leader (or as I affectionately refer to it “the least worst option”) is to drive home the lesson that we should stop looking for a single person to rescue us, because the rescue is up to all of us.

Ron Garan thinks so, at any rate, and I sure hope I live long enough to see that he is right.
