One of many 3D printed house designs by Icon. Look at more designed for Earth and the Moon, and read about the guy who started the company here. More videos here. Trés cool. (h/t NYT)

Quote: “If we aren’t going to be left behind, we’re going to have to push. Engineers and scientists have done their job, dropping the price of clean energy 90 percent in a decade. Now environmentalists, entrepreneurs, YIMBYs, advocates for clean air, and local communities have our own job to do: convincing everyone else that rooftop solar is no longer “alternative” energy. As costs have plummeted, solar has gone from being the Whole Foods of energy to the Costco of power—available in bulk, on the shelf, and cheap in most of the world.” (h/t The Best of Journalism)

I’m more of a Star Trek fan myself but this is pretty cool. Click through here or the image above to swipe in. (h/t Kottke)

Quote: “The scale of this is almost impossible to get your head around. We are talking about billions of lives altered in the most tangible of ways: homes with taps, schools with toilets, clinics where soap and water are always available. Progress like this slips past unnoticed, hidden by the news cycle, but in the grand sweep of history it’s as big as anything gets. Those numbers represent real children playing in the streets instead of dying from some shitty disease, hundreds of millions of mothers spared the daily burden of carrying water, and countless communities freed to focus on more than just survival.” (Fix the News)

Quote for the day:
We have more power than we think. Every time we share outrage bait or doom-laden headlines, we’re feeding a machine that makes everyone more miserable. But we also have the ability to choose differently. The algorithms will follow us wherever we lead them. We just have to decide where we want to go. —Angus Hervey and Elizabeth Isaacson
Outro…Stephen Stills for the win, a superb synthesis of words and music with a message as relevant today as it was when he wrote it back in 1966.

Saw these guys at the Salem, Oregon armory in the 9th grade. So cool!
By the way, our son is a veterinary surgeon and they are doing 3-D printing prior to surgeries to perfect joint replacement for hips, etc. Very useful tool in many ways. Printing homes is wonderful!
I am so jealous! They never made it up to Alaska.
And 3D printing homes is wonderful, indeed!
