Crack! Bang! Boom!Dea gratia, the final edit of The Harvey Girl went to my editor this week. Right here and now allow me to declare my undying gratitude to copyeditor Liz and editor Greg for their help in making it a better read all the way around. A good editor’s price is far above rubies. Below is a little animated doohickey Head of Zeus made of the cover art for me to share. You can almost hear the Philadelphia derringer going off, can’t you?
Is this Cleopatra?A marble bust discovered last December west of Alexandria, Egypt. Some say yes, it is the true face of Cleopatra VII, some say no, which is how it always rolls when they dig up something like this. They do say they think they are getting close to finding Cleopatra’s tomb, which would be great. If they could find even a fragment of her bones we might learn how she died. (photo credit Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities) Meanwhile, in the Eye of Isis novels Cleopatra is alive and kicking and busy thinking up new ways to put Tetisheri into harm’s way, first by commanding Tetisheri to find a stolen issue of new currency which nearly gets her murdered by Cleopatra’s brother; second by assigning her to find out who is stealing from the Royal contractors (everyone) which almost gets her fitted with a pair of Rhakotis sandals; third when investigating a kidnapping she’s nearly assassinated by a fanatic cult; and fourth and most recently puts her in a front-row seat to the Battle of Thapsis. Life is never dull for an Eye of Isis. Put not your trust in princes. I reviewed a book the incomparable Judi Dench wrote about her and Shakespeare, I shared a piece I found on the best covers of Dylan songs (any cover of a Dylan song is de facto better than the original), and I wrote a post for #thiswritinglife on finding just the right name for the Protestant church in Montaña Roja. Also, go here to see more photos of the flowers in my garden. Talk about a big finish.
