Lagniappe Sunday

Scary but useful. (h/t Laughing Squid)

Absolutely fireweed, but I would have sworn it would have been bears for Alaska. (xkcd via Kottke)

Jeebus. Far be it from me to tell anyone how to do anything but I’d get those boats out of the water right quick were I the owners. More gorgeous photography by Dennis Lehtonen under the link. (h/t can’t remember who in my feed)

Lede: “The First Planned Migration of an Entire Country Is Underway
The Pacific island nation of Tuvalu could be submerged in 25 years due to rising sea levels, so a plan is being implemented to relocate its population to Australia.” Fascinating story.

This series of Swiss tourism ads are the best commercials ever made. For the record if Roger Federer wriggled his eyebrows at me like that I would follow him anywhere. Switzerland looks pretty good, too. (There is another ad with Robert de Niro, one with Mads Mikkelsen, and more.)

Quote for the day:

Our politics may seem intractable today, but on issues from gun control to immigration to education reform to A.I. regulation, winning coalitions are hiding in plain sight. —Jesse Wegman and Lee Drutman
