“These private equity firms have mastered the art of the coverup.” (US Senator Elizabeth Warren)
The “How to” begins about halfway through the video. (h/t Laughing Squid)

Quote: “One reason we missed some of that revolution is that so much of it is taking place in China. By some measures, as Bloomberg’s David Fickling worked out, seven Chinese companies that I’d wager most Americans have never heard of—Tongwei, GCL Technology Holdings, Xinte Energy, Longi, Trina Solar, JA Solar Technology, and JinkoSolar—produced more energy in 2024 than the seven global giants at the heart of Big Oil.” (Bill McKibben in The New Yorker, bwo Fix the News)

So this is fun: I entered 47BC for time and picked Alexandria for location, and one of the things that popped up was the hipposandal, with a link to its Wikipedia page. Danger, Will Robinson, Internet rabbit hole, danger! (h/t Kottke)
Quote for the day:
“I got into trouble for saying this but it’s true: sexism is a harder thing to change than racism.” — Carol Moseley Braun

Mitt Romney made most of his money from doing just what Elizabeth Warren was talking about. And one of the reasons we have such a housing shortage is because of REIT, again private equity companies, are buying up a LOT of the houses and either turning them into Airbnb’s or rental properties.
Exactly the reason so many businesses here in Homer have either shortened hours or gone out of business entirely–there is literally nowhere for staff to live. If you look on Zillow for Homer? Many of the homes for sale are over a $1M. In HOMER. A restaurant server or a clerk at a gift shop can’t afford that or even what it would cost to rent a bedroom in it.
