Father’s Day

In honor of Father’s Day (tomorrow, for all you people who forgot and now have to scuttle around and find a card and a gift, tsk), some photos of my father, Slim Stabenow, with various vehicles and the places in Alaska he rode them to.

Photos from a trip to the Yukon River in 1959. Might be him driving the Cat on the left; definitely him standing on the right. This was part of the Rampart Dam project that fortunately never came to pass.

Some beach in southwest Alaska. Walrus haulout (two of them) from the air, and Dad getting way too close to them on the ground. He’s frowning because of the smell, which is like standing down inside the biggest latrine on the world.

His favorite beachcombing plane. You can’t see the name hidden behind the strut, but he called it the Hem’roid because he said that’s what it gave him. On the right, Japanese glass balls on a southwest Alaska beach.

Happy Father’s Day, Dad.
