In Cappadocia, Turkey, they hang jars on trees.

I took a photo of this one in 2011. Why hang jars on trees? you ask. So did I, and I was told that the Tree of Jars was a symbol of abundance in Turkey. I guess maybe it’s a good thing if you’re rich enough to have jars and not need to put anything in them so that you can hang them on trees.
We stopped at a pottery later that day, run by two adorable twin brothers, where I let them talk me into trying my hand at throwing a pot. Oh dear.

I’m sure they regretted it when they had to clean up the mud I got just everywhere in the process, but I tried to make up for it by buying some stuff.

Like my very own Tree of Jars. It hangs in my kitchen, and I think of that amazing country every morning during my first sip of coffee. Why we travel, right?
