(h/t Paul Krugman)

Quote: “Few states seize the popular imagination like Alaska. And with 13.2 million acres, Wrangell-St. Elias, the largest national park in the U.S., encompasses the overwhelming beauty of the far north. Hiking here leads you through a boreal forest, along glittering glaciers—the Root Glacier Trail goes right on the icy mass, so crampons are recommended—and up to ridges for breathtaking mountain views. This park contains some of the highest peaks in the country to boot.” (From Travel & Leisure’s The 51 Most Beautiful Places in the U.S.)
Dana sez, Yep, where Kate Shugak lives, folks.

F/F to 6:30. Brooks is right, this is no longer about right or left. (PBS NewsHour)

From the BBC: “To do the test, simply sit in the middle of the chair, cross your arms and place both of your hands on opposing shoulders. Keep your back straight with your feet on the floor. Then press your stopwatch’s start button and rise to a full standing position before sitting down again. Repeat this for 30 seconds, counting how many times you can come to a full standing position.” (h/t 1440)
Dana sez–Fourteen in 30 seconds for me. You?

Quote for the day:

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it. –Mark Twain

Outro…

Dana sez–From Merriam-Webster: irony (noun)incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result.

  1. What is (h/t 1440)?
I did 13 but that was after starting out doing them in my office chair with wheels. The chair kept scooting back, so I decided to start over in a dining chair. My results are better than the average for my age group and I’m satisfied that all the effort I’m putting into keeping fit is working for me.

  2. Aha! I subscribe to 1440, just haven’t looked at it today (or yesterday) due to a few computer screwups that needed dealing with first.
    h/t to you, too!
