There are things you can’t anticipate when you make the decision to become a writer. Some aren’t great but some…well. Click through the image above to read the post.
This series of YouTube videos by Dwarkesh Patel featuring Naval War College Professor Sarah Paine is everything they should have taught us in history in high school.

My thanks to everyone who came to the launch of Abduction of a Slave at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore yesterday! A good time was had by all, especially me. My thanks, too, to the Danamaniacs who participated in the contest, and congrats to the winners, Judy, Arlene, and Stephanie!
For those of you who missed out, well, you know, tsk. You can still watch my conversation with Barbara Peters on Facebook Live or YouTube, and the Poisoned Pen still has some signed first editions which you can order here.
And if e is how you roll, you can order your Kindle US edition here and your Kindle UK edition here. Also, there is an Isis4 mug now.
Enjoy your trip back to 46 BCE!
Crank it up!

The Nora Roberts bit with the Vet and Eve Dallas reminds me, and finally gives me courage to write to your esteemed self. During COVID lockdown in Namibia and specifically the region where we live, my non-fiction reading husband dove into the whole series of Kate Shugak. (I have had the series for some years already.) As an airline transport pilot he had lost his job and we lived through 18 months of hell. Your writing and Kate kept him going and for that I owe you a debt of gratitude. Thank you for your brilliant writing and fascinating characters.
I’m so glad the books were a help when you both needed it. Thank you so much for writing to tell me so.
Thanks for the heads-up on the conversations between Professor Sarah Paine and Dwarkesh Patel. Both totally new names to me. Fascinating. Not a single title by her in my local public library. InterLibraryLoans is my next source. Dana, who are you trusting for news these days? For keeping up with the good stuff, I’ve found Fix the News. Any suggestions? I’m 1st on the library wait list for Isis4, so any day now! Happy Pub day!
Fix the News for sure. Also 1440 Daily Digest, James Fallows, Paul Krugman, and Heather Cox Richardson on Substack, Today in Tabs weekly, John Naughton (M,W,F), The Best of Journalism weekly links letter (a steal at $20 a year), USAFacts once a week, and for local news the Alaska Public Media daily newsletter and the Alaska Beacon daily.
