The adventure continues…you know, like it always does.Greg, my editor asked, Would you be up for writing a short piece – say 500-ish words – on your research for the Eye of Isis books and ABDUCTION OF A SLAVE in particular? (Please note, he cleverly timed this request between the Friday I submitted Isis4, aka Abduction of a Slave, and the Monday I left on vacation.) So I did, but only after I got permission to share it with you. Read it here, where you can also see what I added to the Eye of Isis memorabilia I’ve been collecting along the way. Even better than the Sphinx rubber duck lip balm. Titles are hard.I wanted to call Kate1 Deep Freeze, and was overruled by my editor. Still think it was better than Cold Day but what the hell. Though Not Dead (Kate16) and Not the Ones Dead (Kate23) come from my go-to guy, Robert Frost. So does Kate 24, which title is–ta dah!– No Bones of Men There(And there aren’t, either. Evil chuckle.) The line comes from Frost’s "The Census-Taker," about a, you guessed it, census taker searching abandoned farms for someone to count. Mostly I think it’s Frost’s middle finger to death. After all, he wants life to go on living. Who or what is that? The Great and Powerful KelseyG is the reason my social media looks as good as it does, including the Roadhouse Report, my newsletter you’re all subscribed to.* I asked her to dummy up a cover for the first Harvey Girls mystery novel. She experimented with AI and horror and hilarity (and the image above) ensued. Read all about it here. *Or should be. Here. Sheesh. Silk and Song revisitedI spent some months on the blog exerpting Silk and Song, my trilogy about Marco Polo’s granddaughter traveling the Silk Road west, from China to England during the years of 1323-1327. Each excerpt includes an author’s note. That was fun. Click through below. Join the Danamaniacs on Facebook. They read a lot, of everything, mostly books that aren’t mine (only partly because I can’t write that fast). It’s the best online book club there is. And don’t forget my page, right here, where Facebook just spanked me for posting a photo of bangers and mash. Bangers are sausages and mash is mashed potatoes. It was the last dinner I had my last night on vacation (posted a lot of photos of Montana and Wyoming and South Dakota on my Facebook page, too), which I ate in a great Irish pub in Butte, Montana. I wonder what word it was that Facebook found objectionable? Like I said. Always an adventure. bangersbangersbangersbangersbangersbangersbangersbangersbangersbangers
