an excerpt…

The sign on the wall next to the door was in plain brass letters, Pletnikof Investigations. The door opened into a reception area furnished with seating. Copies of PI Magazine were arranged in a meticulous row on the coffee table. In spite of timing their arrival to opening hours to the second, a man was already sitting on the couch leafing through one of the magazines. He was in his forties, dressed in a blue suit his belly had outgrown, a blue button-down, and an electric-blue tie with tiny gavels printed on it. Jowls were threatening his face and he looked cross, as if he was aware of the jowls and knew there was nothing he could do about them. He looked up when they entered. His eyes widened when he saw Mutt and he paused in the act of flipping a page. Well, more like he froze solid, but Kate always tried to be kind.

Mutt looked up at her with a smug expression that said, I’ve still got it

There are still signed first edition hardcovers available at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore (and they know how to ship), and don’t forget that each of the first 400 copies includes a recipe card for the salmon bouillabaisse Kate makes in the book. I promise you it’s an easy recipe–hey, I make it successfully so it has to be.
