before he got back to normal with the nonfiction (although no Churchill!)

Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff
Friends Divided by Gordon S. Wood (about John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, a difficult read, he says, but worthwhile)
The Art of Power by Jon Meacham (Terry danced around saying it was an easy read, until I told him there was nothing inherently evil in being an easy read)

My recommendations were:

The Miracle of Dunkirk by Walter Lord (I saw the film Dunkirk and I wanted more information on the event. This book reads like a thriller, I was on the edge of my seat, literally, the whole time I was reading it.)
Cinnamon and Gunpowder by Eli Brown (an adventure novel, a history lesson,  a love story, a cook book, and the entrance of Mabbot the pirate is one worthy of Darth Vader)
Her Right Foot by Dave Eggers
5,000 Awesome Facts, National Geographic
The Book With No Pictures by BJ Novak (the only kid’s book I’ve ever found that makes the narrator part of the story)
Police at the Station and They Don’t Look Friendly by Adrian McKinty (Sixth in a noir crime series set in Northern Ireland in the early ’80s, the time of the Troubles)
Light it Up by Nick Petrie (third in the Peter Ash series. Peter’s the veteran with claustrophobia who this time is working security for a marijuana grow in California. The shipment he is guarding gets robbed and everyone is killed except Peter. It proves to be the last mistake the robbers ever make.)
Marko Kloos’ Frontline series (Superior military S/F with great characters and a recognizable future Earth, and boy are we in trouble)
