Deep Space 9 Rewatch

I just finished a rewatch of most of Deep Space 9. I have to admit, I’ve got a little thing for Vic Fontaine.

But my favorite recurring guest character is Garek, the Cardassian tailor slash spy, and by far and away my favorite episode in all seven years is “In the Pale Moonlight.”

You get into bed with Garek, you don’t get up clean the next morning. I always wished that Garek could have flattened the self-righteous Sisko just once, but with Garek it was never the phaser in the front, it was always the knife in the back.

I was a TNG girl from the getgo, but when it hit its stride, DS9 was the best Trek ‘verse ever constructed. The wonderful ensemble cast of characters, the multi-season story arcs, the red shift limit best cast villains (Marc Alaimo as Dukat, Jeffrey Combs as Weyoun, Louise Fletcher as Kai Winn), and a willingness to look at the dark underside of the squeaky clean Roddenberry Star Trek world combined to make a riveting watch.

And you notice? They’re all using iPads.

All seven seasons are available on DVD on Amazon, and on live streaming on Netflix.
