Quote: “[T]he Trump administration is putting pressure on the U.S. Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would, in part, require voters to present identification and proof of U.S. citizenship in person when they vote…Alaska Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski has loudly opposed the bill, saying it’s logistically impossible for most Alaskans, as the state only has six in-person elections offices and fewer than a dozen DMV offices. Republicans U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan and U.S. Rep. Nick Begich III have supported the bill, saying they don’t think it would be hard to comply with its requirements. “

Quote for the day

I arrived the following Monday after a huge storm. The village had snowbanks as tall as houses. I climbed a few of those when I arrived because the road to my hotel hadn’t been dug out yet. The hotel manager strongly advised me to stay indoors after dark — a polar bear had been roaming around (and on top of) the building where I stayed. –Alena Naiden, From the Alaska Desk

  1. I’ve loved this song — so captures the spirit of Alaska! — ever since I received the 45 single as an introduction to Alaska before working as a nurse’s assistant for my uncle, Doc Fritz, in the summer of 1966. It has been on the juke box at the Salty Dawg Saloon in Homer for years. Sounds better than ever there!
