Niiiiiice… (h/t Laughing Squid)

Quote: “I believe in free enterprise, and I believe all Americans should be able to strive for financial success. But we have reached a point where any mix of solutions to our nation’s economic problems is going to involve the wealthiest Americans’ contributing more.” (NYT gift article)

Hands down the funniest thing I read last year. Read it here.
FF to 44:30. Mamdani quote: “We have monetized dysfunction.” I think that every time I see the Clear people at the airport, or renew my Global Entry card for $100 a pop. Anything to shorten the time spent in a TSA line.

As an Alaskan I’m always interested in the price of gold, and that “Gold’s Super-Cycle Hits $4,500+” square made me look up the price. As of yesterday it’s $4601.10. No wonder Donlin is gearing up and that no one has given up on Pebble. (Visual Capitalist, h/t 1440)

Go here to read about the other nine most-read articles last year. (USAFacts)
Here are two links that I found informative as to what’s going on in Minnesota. Coming soon to a neighborhood near you.

A sourced list of ICE behavior in Minneapolis. Minnesotans are awesome.

A Slate reporter applied to be an ICE agent. Go there, read that, and imagine the thousands of equally unqualified yahoos behind the masks who take their $50,000 bonus and strap on a Glock they learned how to use playing Call of Duty. Our tax dollars at work.
Write Dan. Write Lisa. They can step up or they can step aside.
Quote for the day
The secret of survival is a defective imagination. The inability of mortals to imagine things as they truly are is what allows them to live, since one momentary, unresisted glimpse of the world’s totality of suffering would annihilate them on the spot. –John Banville (h/t John Naughton)
Outro…
