Books mentioned on Coffee Table this a.m.

kbbi

So I did my usual spring thing on Coffee Table on KBBI this morning, talking with Daysha Eaton and Quinton Chandler and everyone who called in about great summer reads. Here are all the books mentioned on the show today, and if I missed any or you didn’t make it to the phone in time, please use the comments section below to add more. We’re allll about filling up the to-read shelf here at stabenow.com.

Lily – The Lost Art of Alaska Fishing by Anna Young

Shirley – At the Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen, No Ordinary Times by Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Peter James’ series featuring Detective Superintendent Roy Grace.

Melanie – Like me loves Jennifer Crusie and says all Crusie’s books are in the Homer Public Library.

Michael – Our SF expert stole precious minutes from his deadline at the Homer News to call in with two recommendations, Graft by Matt Hill and Ancestral Machines by Michael Cobley. He had me at Angry Robot, the name of their publisher.

Mike – Fish, Oil and Follies by Loren Flag

And Dana recommends– (links go to my Goodreads reviews)

A String of Beads (the 8th Jane Whitefield) and Forty Thieves, both by Thomas Perry
The Vulture (10th Ike Ramsay) by Frederick Ramsay
Jane and the Waterloo Map by Stephanie Barron (13th Jane Austen mystery)

Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series (San Francisco)
Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels series (Atlanta)
Benedict Jacka’s Alex Verus series (London)

Uprooted by Naomi Novik

James Corey’s Leviathan series.

The Jennifer Crusie Collection, especially Crazy for You and Bet Me.

Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson, window on what kids are thinking these days

David McCullough’s The Path Between the Seas, about the building of the Panama Canal
Betrayal by the Boston Globe staff, not the book the film Spotlight was based on but the story the reporters were writing in that film, which won the Pulitzer Prize for public service
Most Dangerous: Daniel Ellsberg and the Secret History of the Vietnam War by Steve Sheinkin
The Checklist Manifesto and Being Mortal, both by Atul Gawande

And I think at the last minute Daysha got one more recommendation out of me, Cinder by Marissa Meyer. Oh, and Stacy Schiff’s The Witches, which my book club is reading this month.

And I gave shoutouts to Smart Bitches Trashy Books and Homer Public Library’s Read 15 in ’16 reading list. You’ll find a bunch of good suggestions in both places, and SBTB puts up screaming deals for e-books all the time. I follow them on Twitter, too.
